I definitely started the school year in a very relaxed state of mind while the 1st years were in a frenzy having already completed at least two courses - including final exams - I repeat FINALS already!?!
However, the frenzy of social and student organization activities soon took over my calendar and that is the reason for this looong delay between posts, for which I apologize. But rest assured, I am thoroughly enjoying myself in b-school and I'm thrilled that the experience is getting better with each moment. So here are highlights of the first two weeks of school. : )
Week 1:
Lunchtime BBQ with words from Dean Romanelli and student government president and EVP. The weather was HOOOOT but it was nice to mingle and catch-up on the patio.
My friend Erika, listening intently...
The Student Org fair occurred Thursday afternoon. Basically I stood around a table, talking to prospective Net Impact members imploring me them to give me membership dues and also encouraging them to attend the national Net Impact conference in Baltimore.
Week 2:
I connected with more first years, especially during a morning "Inside the Internship" session that was formatted as a career fair with tables set up by industry and I, of course, represented international development. I felt like I had made something of myself when one student mentioned she only came to the fair to meet me because of my internship through the Tony Elumelu Foundation. Another one told me one of the career advisors said I was "well rounded". I have to say, one of the perks of being a second year, is knowing that first years respect you and look to you for sage advice...at least for now.
The week ended with a Gray cohort mixer that ended up being attended by students from other cohorts. It was fun to watch the first years take on second years and I'm looking forward to a repeat in the coming weeks.
great post. Can’t wait to hear more of your adventures.
