Friday can be so many different things here at Georgetown because we don't have class...at all! At the beginning of the school year, Fridays were filled with Functional Days. Functional Days are industry/career days that are put together by clubs and Career Services. One of the first Days this year was Marketing Day, which I was particularly excited about because it's my area of interest. The day was packed with guest speakers, panels and networking sessions. A ton of wonderful Georgetown alumni came as well as other marketing professionals from the area. I didn't stop at Marketing Day, though - I wanted to see what all of the different industries had to offer, so I signed up for almost all of the other Functional Days including Operations Day and Net Impact Day!
Once Functional Days trail off, Friday's become an important networking day. I spent a number of my Fridays in the fall and winter meeting with Georgetown alumni for coffee and informational conversations about their companies and experiences after graduation. My classmates pursuing investment banking did the same, but in New York, taking the train on Thursday night to ensure Friday was totally free for informational interviews.
And, after winter break, Friday's became an important day for internship interview preparation and actual interviews.
Mixed amongst these important career related activities, Fridays can also be a great day to catch up on homework, the gym or TV :) This past weekend, I took advantage of my Friday off to fly to Boston to spend the weekend with my sister. So, Friday can also be a great day to work on that balance of family/friends and MBA life. My sister's wedding is coming up at the end of April, so I'll need a number of my Fridays to perform my Maid of Honor job to the fullest!
All in all, I am very grateful that the Georgetown MBA schedule provides us time to pursue what's most important to us on Friday whether it be career related, family related or Gossip Girl related!
