Snow!

We had our first real snow over the weekend! You would never know because it's almost 60 degrees outside (the weather in DC this year has been really wacky). A lot of my classmates who have never experienced snow were really excited about it, but since I wanted to drive to Philadelphia to see my parents, I was not! One of the great things about DC is how centrally located it is. It's so easy to get to all of the major East Coast cities - Philadelphia, NYC, Atlanta, Boston. Lots of great weekend destinations!

This week is extremely busy again - I have my first interview scheduled on Friday morning (exciting!!!) and I'm spending a lot of time in the Career Services office doing mock interviews with the career coaches and peer advisers. There's a career coach for each industry and I think I met with almost all of them while I was exploring careers this fall. The peer advisers are all second years who have successfully survived the internship interview process and actual internships. They have a lot of really helpful, practical advice to give.

Chinese New Year - Our Chinese students threw a huge party in one of the event spaces in our building with tons of food and fun!

This Friday is also Entrepreneurship Day (a HUGE event on campus) and the beginning of Welcome Weekend for admitted students. Welcome Weekend is an amazing event that the Full-Time Admissions Staff plans for admitted students after each round of applications. There's lots of time to meet with current students, professors and other prospective students to get a real idea of what life is like at Georgetown. I'm especially excited for it because I get to attend most of the events as a Student Recruiter. I attended the first Welcome Weekend last year and was ready to hand over my deposit at the end - it was that much fun. I'd definitely recommend all of you to attend if you have the chance.

Okay, I'm off to Corporate Finance now with Professor Comer.  I'll let you know how the interview goes - keep your fingers crossed for me!

Hello Blogging World!!

Hi, everyone! This is my first official blog as a student and Admissions Student Recruiter and, really, the first blog I've ever written for anything (i.e. don't judge my first attempt too harshly!). As an introduction, my name is Brita and I'm a first-year, full-time MBA student here at the Georgetown McDonough School of Business. Before school, I was entrenched in the DC non-profit sector with positions at the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative and American Councils for International Education. In fact, I've been living in DC for about five years now and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. My husband and I live in Capitol Hill, near the H Street Corridor. We managed to find a cute little row house with a teeny backyard for our dog, Chuck:

You can tell by the picture that he's not pleased that I'm writing my blog instead of playing with him (he's very demanding).

We're just a few weeks into Mod 3 now and just as I started to feel settled into my schedule and life as a student again, interview season began!  Yesterday, a lot of my classmates were milling around the second floor of our building (near Career Services) in their best suits looking very anxious. Most students who are interested in Consulting, Finance or Investment Banking are interviewing now. My interviews for Marketing positions won't begin for another few weeks (fingers crossed!), but I'm beginning to feel anxious just because so many of my friends are nervous about their interviews! We really are a big family here at school and we're all hoping for the best for everyone. I expect we'll be celebrating internship placements this weekend!

I'll write more soon - I need to go work on my own internship cover letters!
