This weekend was full of events for Georgetown Women in Business (GWIB). I love these women, and I love the support we have from the school.
Thursday night we hosted our weekly KEGS with the Middle Eastern Graduate Association (MEGA). While it could have been an pairing of associations, it was such a fun event!
We had music playing (an odd assortment of my favorite female singers), served Persian desserts, kebabs and meatballs, and did a presentation on the Persian New Year. It was great!
We concluded the afternoon with a Date Auction with all the funds raised going towards the Rape Incest Abuse National Network (RAINN). We "sold" date with some of our favortie first year male classmates. Now, it could be said that it is inappropriate for a womens organization to sell "dates" with men, but I believe that the entire event achieved everything that we hoped it would - light-hearted fun while still raising money for a great cause! The guys generated their own hype for their dates. The dates themselves were fun activities that could be shared by men and women alike, and groups were encouraged to bid together. In fact, two male classmates bought two of the dates, and one of the cohorts joined forces to purchase another!
Here are some of the wonderful gentlemen who donated their time:
Piano lessons with Braden
Indian cooking lessons with Bhagirath
Karate lesson with Ivan
Ride on a Vespa with Antoine
Hula lessons with Michael (yes, that's me on the side!)
Zoe Lu and I acted as the MCs for the event. Zoe introduced all of the guys, and I auctioned them in my bed auctioners voice. It was a lot of fun to see how passionate the bidding became amongst the groups!!!
We had an amazing turnout and raised $1250 for RAINN! I was so proud of my classmates!
Also, thanks to Bobby Johnson for taking the photos for us (and for being one of the dates as well).
GWIB also hosted a admitted student brunch for local DC women the Saturday after the Date Auction. We hosted 12 great ladies for brunch at Ceiba in Dupont. Wow! What a great group of gals! We had a wonderful time and hopefully will see them next fall.
